Stoney Creek Road Closure: Byfield

The Rockhampton Regional Council has advised that due to bridge works, Stoney Creek Road will be closed from Monday 19 October 2009 for approximately 8 weeks. Access to the picnic and camping grounds will be via a side track that branches off Byfield Road 300 metres to the south of the regular turn off. The side track will be signed.

Road works in the Byfield State Plantation Forest: September - November 2009

Road works are occurring in the Byfield State Plantation Forest near Stoney Creek Road (also known as Picnic Road) during September to November 2009. Heavy vehicles and machinery will be operating in this area and on Stoney Creek Road.

Members of the public can expect to encounter gravel trucks, machinery and dusty conditions and are asked to drive cautiously, obey all roadwork, traffic, safety and advisory signage and directions from road crews. Drivers must take extra precaution during wet weather. 

Mt Mee State Forest: restricted acccess

Forestry Plantations Queensland is undertaking road works in the Centepede logging area of Mt Mee State Forest in preparation for harvesting and/or thinning of hoop pine plantations in the area over the next few months. As a result, public access through the area is now restricted.

Hazard reduction burning commences

Forestry Plantations Queensland has begun hazard reduction burning in many of its State Plantation Forests. Motorists are asked to drive with caution if they encounter smoke hazards near plantation forests, reducing speed and turning on their lights if necessary. 

Harvesting in the Upper Stoney area

Harvesting has commenced in the Upper Stoney area of the Byfield State Plantation Forest, north-east of Rockhampton, and will continue through until 2012. Logging trucks may be encountered on roads around this area so please take extra care. A speed limit of 40km/h is recommended on roads. The Caribbean Circuit walking track will be closed for forest production from June 2008.
